SUMMARY : excellent tent, easy set-up, just what I wanted, no significant complaints.
I am 6'0", 48 yo, and wanted a comfortable yet rugged tent mostly for solo car-camping. I am a life-long camper and have done some back-packing in the past, but now I mostly want to just head up into the Rocky Mountains with a telescope and do some observing, or spend a week on a volunteer trail crew. I haven't ruled out back-packing, but having an ultra-light tent is lower on my list of priorities. Right now, its more about comfort. For me, the greatest luxuries in a tent are : 1) easy to get in and out when you are stiff and tired, 2) Feeling *very* confident that it won't leak, get blown down during the night or otherwise fail, and 3) having plenty of room inside for sleeping and spreading out gear without touching the walls of the tent. This is exactly what I was looking for in a solo tent. I wanted a tent that had enough room for my sleeping bag and my gear, with little wasted space. Being somewhat skeptical ordering a tent that I had not seen in person, I did not know what to expect size, set up and material wise. As per usual,the two man tent is room enough for a sleeping bag and my gear. I like a tent as small and efficient as possible. Two people in this tent would take up all the floor space pretty tightly and would not leave much room for gear (I do not like to leave mine outside). The construction is solid. I have only owned three or four lightweight tents, all of them being old fashioned dome style, and this is by far the easiest tent to set up, take down and pack that I have ever had. Excellent tent, November 10, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Alps Mountaineering-Alps Mountaineering Hybrid Ce 2 Person Tent - Aluminum Poles (Misc.) Recently purchased the larger Hybrid CE 3 version of this tent and as with most tents you have to subtract one from the advertised number of people, so this 3-person tent is more realistically a 2-person tent especially because, as we found out, two rectangular-type adult sleeping bags will take up most of the floor space. However, we really liked the style and quality of this tent.
Pros:
-Cool design style makes you feel like you're situated in a cozy igloo.
-Easy to setup; the poles almost automatically start piecing themselves together as you unfold them.
-Great ventilation. I'm used to waking up in tent with condensation forming on the ceiling and dripping down on me -- wasn't an issue in this tent spent in both desert and coastal campsites during mild October nights.
-Alps Mountaineering doesn't do a great job of advertising it, but the rain fly has two clear plastic windows that align with the smaller mesh windows on the sides of the tent... Read more
