Unique comfort features, but bulky and overbuilt, January 21, 2012 This review is from: Eureka Tessel 3 3 - person 3 - season Tent (Misc.) The positives of this tent:
--Spacious headroom
--Awning can be used for shade--you can fit a beach chair under it.
--Fabrics are especially rugged and waterproof
--Main body very easy to assemble (2 minutes)
--Huge vestibules if that's what you need (see below). Definitely enough space for all your gear, plus they extend the psychological space and ventilation.
--Excellent ventilation at multiple points
--Truly waterproof in a long, hard rain
--Create easy entry by flipping the door up over the top of the tent when it's not raining. This is much easier to access than a typical vestibule tent where you have to crawl under the vestibule.
The negatives:
--The vestibules are so large that the tent needs a larger than average campsite, which could be a problem in the back country.
--The vestibules extend so far out from the tent that you literally can't reach them from inside the tent, unless you have long arms.

For the price I paid it's a pretty good tent.For the MSRP of this tent it isn't.Easy to set up,good room inside and free standing,but.It is as if two different people designed the tent.The basic tent is great, the rainfly could be better!It does it's job of keeping the rain out and the vetilation is ok .If you open only one of the zippers to the vestibule their is no way to tie the fabric back.Their is a loop on the fabric but it doesn't reach anything.When you roll the entrance all the way up the loops are almost too short to secure it.It has to be rolled up TIGHT !Elastic loops would have been great here.Why are the loops made of the rainfly fabric instead of elactic fabric? If you unzip the top of the enterence for ventilation their is no way to tie it back so the rain flap stays open.It makes a BIG difference in temperature when this part is open.Cool air in at the bottom,hot air out through the very top of the tent.Now about the tent pegs.They didn't give you enough for the... I have never been so excited to try out a new product as I have this tent. After looking, no brooding, over so many different types and styles of back packing tents I kind of stumbled on to this one and boy were my expectations met! I had seen the quality of other Eureka tents at sporting goods stores and they were well built but either too small or too heavy for what I wanted for my needs. This tent really fits the bill. I love the size (I intend to use it for two plus gear); it truly will hold three and have plenty of vestibule room for things under the rain fly. The double zippered awning option on both sides of the rain fly is smart along with the use of the tent with, without or combined together as one is just "nifty-keen-O!". It makes for a great way to divide the weight or leave unnecessary weight behind.
