6 Star Tent!, August 16, 2011 By This review is from: Sierra Designs Lightning XT 4 Person Tent (Misc.) My initial impression of the Lightening XT 4 is that of a game changer. Before the purchase of this tent, I really did not think it was possible to create a truly backpackable, 4-person tent. The Lightening XT 4 rewrites this rule. In the end, this tent has quickly become one of my favorite pieces of gear.
The Lightening XT 4s floor is posh. This is a true 4-person tent efficient in design, but true to its billing.
Interior volume in frankly remarkable! A true vertical main entry door coupled with virtually vertical walls on the other three sides makes this tent a benchmark for all other designers/manufactures to aim for. This currently serves as my familys car camping tent. My 7-year old can almost stand up in it and my 2 year old simply loves it. In the end, my wife has remarked on several occasions on how much she loves this tent making me the hero of the family!

Ours are 4, 6, and 8. Plenty of room and they can all stand up.
It is really nice to have such a tall tent.
Two doors means that it is easier for everyone to get out.
This tent is a great Family Tent with Ultralight specs.
It is easy for us to split up for easy cycle touring with the kids.
I was really glad to happen upon this tent.
We were looking at North face double headed toad, Big Agnes fly creek and Copper spur, and a few others.
I think this tent more than fits all of our needs for a ultra-lightweight backpacking family tent.

My firs impression of the SD Lightening XT 4 is that a quality large tent has finally become available for backpacking.
The Lightening XT 4s floorplan is impressive, after 30 years in a 28 sq ft tent, this tent is night and day camping luxury.
